Real Alloy

Real Alloy turns aluminium scrap and dross into specification alloys, ingot, deoxidizers, briquettes and molten metal across 16 plants in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Real Alloy converts aluminium scrap and by-products, including dross, into reusable aluminium metal for automotive, packaging, manufacturing, construction and other industrial customers. Founded in 2015, the company employs approximately 1,200 people across 16 production sites in the United States, Canada and Mexico, with headquarters in Ohio. Several of the participating plants have supplied aluminium solutions since the 1950s.

The work spans the full recycling cycle, from scrap receipt and dross and by-product processing through remelting, secondary alloy production and metallurgy, to logistics and final delivery. Technical areas of activity include furnace systems, deoxidizer production and waste reduction in metal processing. Output takes several forms: specification alloys, recycled secondary ingot (RSI), deoxidizers, briquettes, cone and shot, and molten metal delivered directly to customers, with flexibility over delivery timing, method and location.

The economics of the business rest on the energy profile of secondary production. Remelting aluminium consumes about 5% of the energy required to produce it from raw materials, and a one-percentage-point increase in recycling rates can reduce a product's overall footprint by roughly 8% in embodied carbon dioxide emissions.
