Heidelberg Materials

Heidelberg Materials makes cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt, employing over 51,000 people in more than 50 countries since its founding in 1873.

Heidelberg Materials is one of the world's largest integrated manufacturers of building materials, with leading market positions in cement, aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt. Founded in Heidelberg, Germany in 1873 by Johann Philipp Schifferdecker, a trained beer brewer who turned to industrial construction, the company employs more than 51,000 people across over 50 countries. In North America it maintains more than 450 locations and approximately 9,000 employees, spanning Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, the Mediterranean and Western Asia.

Operating activity runs across cement manufacturing, aggregates production, ready-mixed concrete and asphalt production, alongside carbon capture technology, circular economy solutions, low-carbon building materials and digital transformation. The company states an ambition to lead the industry on the path to carbon neutrality; its product range includes evoZero, a lower-carbon cement and building material, and evoBuild, a lower-carbon building material, both developed as part of that effort. Strategic acquisitions, geographic expansion and technological innovation are named as levers of growth.

Heidelberg Materials frames its work under the corporate purpose “Material to build our future” and organises its culture around four principles: be stronger together, get the customer excited, unleash innovation, and think and act long term. Operational excellence, digital transformation and sustainability are identified as continuing areas of focus for the business.
