Silvi Materials

Silvi Materials is a vertically integrated concrete and construction materials supplier operating quarries, a CNG-powered mixer fleet and more than 30 sites along the US East Coast.

Silvi Materials is a vertically integrated construction materials supplier producing and delivering concrete and aggregates along the US East Coast. Founded in 1947 by Larry Silvi Sr. as a family business, the company controls every step of the supply chain, from raw material sourcing at company-owned quarries and mines to final delivery at job sites. It operates from more than 30 locations across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and North Carolina, and employs over 950 people. Silvi Materials describes itself as the only vertically integrated concrete company on the East Coast.

Fleet and equipment operations are central to the business. The company runs a fleet of 50 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered concrete mixers, part of an effort to reduce the environmental footprint of its delivery operations. Mining and quarrying activities at company-owned sites form the upstream end of the supply chain, along with on-site solar generation that has produced 3 million kWh of energy. Concrete production incorporates CarbonCure technology, which mineralises CO2 into the mix and has saved over 900 metric tons of CO2 to date; an e-ticketing system has replaced paper delivery tickets, saving 770,000 sheets.

Customers range from large-scale commercial and residential contractors to individual homeowners. The company supports the NJIT Concrete Industry Management programme, partners with the Philadelphia Eagles, and runs the Silvi Foundation, which funds research into neurodegenerative diseases.
